Princess Jasmine, tired of being stuck in the palace all day, goes out in disguise to explore the marketplace, but soon lands in trouble. This is, of course, Aladdin, the title character. He begins his search for the “Diamond in the Rough,” who is the one who can obtain the lamp. And need I remind you, he was tricked into MAKING HIMSELF AN ETERNAL SLAVE by an uneducated orphan boy who grew up on the damn streets, simply because he is arrogant to the extreme.Inciting Event: The evil wizard Jafar seeks the absolute power contained in the lamp, but fails to obtain it. You just need to be observant, and willing to take advantage, even at the harm of others, which Jafar is always willing to do. Every time he SEEMS smart in the film, he’s actually just seizing on an opportunity. He has been seeking the lamp for years, for the sole purpose of gaining control of the kingdom, or perhaps the entire world. And he is not this benevolent leader, he was scheming for power from the get-go. He is cunning and calculated throughout the entire film. He literally does not descend into madness at all. If you need proof from another Disney film, look at Prince John in Robin Hood. A kingdom run by a “man-child” is NOT going to be anywhere near successful as that. Agrabah is a very well run kingdom with very little crime (aside from some minor thievery). But why would he be? Jafar is a magician, AND Prince Ali represents a major wrench in his plans, so even if he is impressed, he would not show it out of spite. The only reason you’re making the sultan sound like a child is because Jafar, in contrast, isn’t impressed. Fucking HOW exactly ? Because he was impressed at Prince Ali’s parade and a magic flying carpet? Damn, your life must be a non stop adventure on the level of Tolkien if a flying SENTIENT carpet doesn’t make you giddy at the sight of it. Like smith from matrix he was a badguy but overall he was doing what he was ment to do from the beginning despite his thoughts on being free.īollocks. Worse even are the stories that frame the villain as a villain but overall as a hero. Hense why like op said with Twisted there are so many story retellings to show the bag guys point of view. There is some level of it through out all of media. Which of course made use question if maybe they were the good guy instead. This trend was further pushed by people overall trying to make villains understandable. Of anything the prince was a bigger bad guy. Where hook 100% is the good guy.(as we know know via the canon maleficent movies) maleficent, Ursula in the original story wasn't even a bad guy she was neutral and gave everything at a cost. The reason it became a thing in the first place is 100% because disney picked some really messed up stories to make movies from. The bad guy's really the hero, everyone!" school of criticism.

While it's true that I can agree with the first part. If this were to happen in real life, things would've gone much differently, so I fail to understand how Aladdin is really the good guy here.
False impersonation is an actual crime that goes against the law, folks. So what if he tried to kill Aladdin on multiple occasions? It was for the greater good. The only reason why Jafar descended into madness was because no one saw things from his point of view, even though he genuinely cared for the safety of his own kingdom, and because a criminal took everything from him. And how does the Sultan repay him? By taking the word of a literal thief and "prince" over his. But his master was a reckless manchild and a bonafide dumbass, so who on Earth could blame the guy for doing so?Īgrabah would probably be worse without his guidance. This man has been loyal to the Sultan his entire life.
#JAFAR ALADDIN OLD MAN MOVIE#
Aside from the brilliant musical known as "Twisted", Jafar is actually one of the most misunderstood characters in fiction, and he certainly deserves a movie centered around his backstory.
